EMPI TENS Review
EMPI (now called DJO Global) has been producing top of the range electrotherapy devices for over two decades. A wide range of accessories are also available to combine with their various units to make for efficient TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) devices.
In addition to TENS devices, EMPI also offer the NMES (Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation) devices that also come with additional accessories and electrodes to be used with it.
A Multifunction Unit
The EMPI TENS unit is an extremely versatile device that can be adjusted to an individual's own needs. It is also multifunctional and is able to function in the following different ways:
- It functions as a TENS unit, first and foremost
- It can also function as a NMES (Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation) device
- It is also possible to use it as a high voltage device for a therapeutic purpose

A Sturdy Unit
A sturdy TENS unit, EMPI is a hand held version of the otherwise expensive table top device that only clinics can afford to buy and operate. For an individual, the smaller portable unit is battery operated requiring the commonly available AA batteries, and it can also be recharged.
Easy Customization
The EMPI unit allows clinicians and individuals to program its settings in an easy way in order to customize the settings to their own requirements. For the NMES functioning, the device releases low level charge helping the relevant muscles to contract.
Program Lock
One of the best features in the EMPI TENS device is that it has a program lock that remembers an individual's desired settings. These unique settings can then be reused to reproduce the exact required output intensity for each patient.
LCD Screen
EMPI unit models like the EMPI SELECT are equipped with an LCD screen where the user can easily read the amplitude of the settings, the locked/unlocked status and the remaining battery status. These capabilities make it easier to operate for a common person.
